He just finished 2nd gr. history, science, art, math, 3rd gr. lang. arts and lit.
We would like any suggestions to make it as fun as possible.
8 yoa with icd.
Yes, we use k12.
We both find it quite boring really.
Mostly it is really easy for him.
None of it is set to his current interest.
That is why we need to make it fun.

He really is interested and has studied in depth, the human body, reptiles, night creatures and the conquistadors.

In math he loves working with shapes, but it is still too easy for him.

However his maturity is not ready for 5th grade by any means. I do find this to be a great time to teach him shortcuts to math. Also we are doing the excercises at the beginning of the dictionary.

We currently have spell offs with our whole family.
We do speed math.
We have all the good board games.

Best of all he has an extensive library collection. He has read hundreds of books on many subjects and at all levels.
He use to read the bible to us on car trips. Now he would rather read comics.
He also likes to write comics.

What are the negative effects of being home schooled?

ricedispenser251 asked:

This can be answered by anyone who has been home schooled, anyone deeply involved within the home schooling process (i.e. parents as teachers), or anyone who knows someone who has been home schooled.

What was it like not interacting with peers – did that have a lasting effect? What was it like being taught at the comfort of home – was the delaying of due dates possible? Easy cheating?

I want to home-school my son as opposed to public or private school. He is only 2 now but I’m hellbent on the idea and want to be fully prepared. I have been doing some research online but was wondering if anyone could suggest a few books or websites to help me out. I am particularly interested in books that would help me understand the various methods and choose the one that is right for us. I’ve already used the hslda website to find all of the laws about my state. Thanks!

Jeramy Durham asked:

I am asking this question for my friends mother. She would like to begin home schooling her children but is on a tight budget. Her questions are: Is it legal to hold fund raisers and or collect money to supplement the costs of home schooling her children? Does she legally have to pay taxes on collected money? The state laws in question are those of Indiana.

My daughter is in sixth grade and she is doing terrible. It seems that the teachers in her school either do not care or do not know how to teach. They send home homework that has not even been gone over. We are left trying to figure it all out. I have been giving home schooling alot of thought and I don’t know if we can afford for me to stay home and do this. Also, in NY State do you have to pay school taxes if your child is being home schooled? Does anyone have any answers?
