Desiree asked:
There are some genuine cases where home schooling is really the only option, but religious people seem to have taken advantage of the system to willingly handicap their children by programming them with stupid religious beliefs and deliberately restricting the knowledge base from which their children can learn. Laws relating to home schooling were never intended to be twisted so that children with perfectly normal learning capabilities would be handicapped with primitive religious beliefs instead of the most modern educational resources. Should federal laws be passed so that religious people can’t exploit the system to carry out cruel and demented abuse of children in the name of religion?

echo asked: See here: http://www.whitepridehomeschool.com/
Amazing how that’s allowed … although it’s Arkansas so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. Those adults shouldn’t be allowed to home school those kids when they’re simply raising them to be right-wing Christian racists. But let me guess … religious freedom right? Wouldn’t want to impose on their religious right to home school their kids with racism in the name of Christianity.

Joh: think outside the bag asked: If you were home schooled was this for religious, prolonged illness, other social or academic reasons?
I’m not trying to perpetuate any stereotypes but as a non US person am interested to know the answer.

Jamesdalbright asked:
It is the Socialists that are sponsoring this movement in America. This movement is designed to force the Socialist mores on those Americans that do not hold their beliefs. If they are successful they will cause those that do not hold their Atheist belief that there is no God to conform on a educational level to this belief by not allowing Christians to teach other beliefs in an educational setting. The fact that they are trying to force this on Christians renders this idea as Socialism in the area of schooling Americas children.

Laptop Jesus ~P3D~ asked: Do you have any family members who have done this? Not “home schoolers” but fundy home schoolers.
I have 8 neices and nephews who have never been into public school. Both sisters tried very hard to be the best teachers they could be and gave sincere effort. Now that the kids are entering adulthood, they are becomming train wrecks. Many are dropping out. Only one has even attempted college. Mostly they are fired from a succession of jobs and have massive relationship problems.
Compared to the “public educated” kids in the family, who are in school, on scholarships, happy in healthy relationships or working. Am I alone here? What are your experiences?

Debra M. Wishing Peace To All asked:
I home school my sons for various educational and religious reasons. The biggest reason by far is I feel that I can give them a better education. I care more about what they learn. They are both active in Boy Scouts and our Church. They have many outside friends and do watch Tv and play video games. How do you think I am raising them to have “social” issues?
Here is the catch up until 3 years ago my sons attended public school. I was not happy with what I saw. They do not want to go back. And by the way Parents make these decisions children do not.
Welcome to 2006 ALL major colleges freely accept homeschoolers and actively recruit them. There are many home schoolers out there and we test far higher on average than public and private school counterparts.Look around public school comes with all sorts of negative socialization and dangers.

Benson asked: I’m not talking about general home-schooling materials in general (those are everywhere), but specifically Christian materials.
For example, what materials can I use to teach young kids about the evils of homosexuality, evolution, fotosynthesis, birth control, etc.?
