Thoughts on home schooling vs. attending public school?

I am really struggling with a strong fear to send my child to school in a year… (now, before you start with the over protective first time mom, I have 3 older kids in college.
BUT, they did not have all the school violence that seems to be everywhere now, or the teacher *** scandels, or the bus driver beatdowns, Jesus, it’s overwhelming!

Am I out of line to be afraid to send my child to school? I want to do right by him, but I’m seriously thinking home schooling is a better alternative in this decade.
